Training
As we had played on the Tuesday and had another match on the Saturday, training on the Thursday evening was fairly relaxed. Indeed, it was almost enjoyable, not much sweat and very little problems with the ankle.
Sean Fallon had suddenly become my best pal. Don’t forget, I did not know at this time that I was automatically suspended from the next tie in the Cup Winner’s Cup, due the following week. I just though I was out –period! But Sean was quick to be at my side a lot, trying to boost my damaged ego and telling me that it would only be a matter of time before I was back in the first team again. I do know if I altogether believed him but I recognised his sincerity and was grateful for it.
Anyway, when the team list for the reserve-side against St Mirren was pinned up on the board at the end of training, I found that, once again, I was doing my Pele act up front. Now, wouldn’t that have made a fine pairing – Pele and Cairney!

From the coverage in the press, you would have thought that Celtic had no match for a few days, as all the coverage was about the Cup-Winner’s Semi-final against Liverpool.
No Live TV of Celtic Match
There will be no live TV coverage of the Celtic v Liverpool European Cup Winner’s Cup semi-final tie at Parkhead on Thursday.
Celtic state that they had talks with representatives of BBC and STV, both of whom had hoped to transmit part of the game live but failed to reach an agreement.

Rangers will have to play Motherwell in a postponed league match at Ibrox on 20th April, five days before they meet Celtic in the Scottish Cup final.

Conflicting figures for television coverage of the General Election were issued. According to the BBC Audience Research Department, 16,500,000 watched the BBC, while ITV’s coverage was watched by 8,500,000.
However, the independent T.A.M. company suggested that the companies shared equal honours.
Tragic Death
Barry Butler, centre-half of Norwich City, was killed in a midnight collision in which the car he was driving and a bus were involved. The bus swerved and became embedded in the wall of a house, where it had to remain until the building could be shored up..
Tour
The Beatles will play a total of almost 20 concerts in the USA and Canada in August and September.
The tour will open on Friday 12th August at the Amphitheatre, Chicago.
